SWELL Sculpture Festival 2026: A Celebration of Art, Place & Community From 11–20 September 2026, the Gold Coast again hosts Queensland’s most immersive outdoor art experience: the 24th SWELL Sculpture Festival. The festival transforms the foreshore at Currumbin Beach into a living gallery for 10 free days, filling the coastline with large-scale contemporary sculptures crafted by dozens of local, national and international artists. Where Art Meets Nature Set against golden sand and crashing waves, SWELL invites visitors to wander Currumbin Beach and experience art in an environment where light, ocean breeze and shifting tides become part of the show. Curators place sculptures along Currumbin Alley, Currumbin Beach and down to Flat Rock, Tugun, and they keep the walkway open around the clock so visitors can enjoy the artworks at any hour. A selection of sculptures light up each evening between 5 pm and 9 pm, revealing an entirely different verve after dark. SWELL 2026 engages all the senses, all ages, and every creative interest: Workshops & Masterclasses: Artists lead hands-on sessions — from pottery and mosaics to print-making and life drawing — so participants can explore their own creativity. The festival offers around 20 workshops in total, and several are free. SWELL Kids Elements: Families can dive into art workshops, clay play, seedling planting and interactive circus games at the Yulagi Space and Fringe Pavilion, keeping young imaginations busy throughout the festival. SWELL Fringe & Live Events: Wallace Nicoll Park comes alive each evening with live music, artist panels, comedy, DJ sets, morning beach meditations and the Fringe Bar, creating a full cultural program alongside the sculptures. Wellness & Community: Guided sculpture walks, twilight walks, and The People’s Art Party — a sunset soiree with food, drinks and curator-led tours — help visitors build genuine connections with the art and the place. Visitor Info & Experience Tips Visitors can park at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary for $10 all-day, or take the free Park & Ride shuttle running daily from Currumbin RSL between 9 am and 5 pm. Two TransLink bus routes (767 and 768) stop along Pacific Parade, Currumbin, right at the festival. The exhibition costs nothing to attend, though visitors can buy a $6 printed program to support next year’s festival. Visitors should plan to spend several hours exploring the entire stretch of beach and wear comfortable walking shoes. Early morning or sunset visits reward visitors with softer light, cooler conditions and more dramatic viewing. Dog owners can bring their on-leash companions — most sculptures are visible from the beach and pathway.
