Gaskin, a Canadian-born artist who relocated to Southern California for the street tacos and sunshine, has built a devoted following for her vibrant, tactile oil paintings. Pushing beyond traditional Impressionism into expressive Fauvism, Gaskin’s work marries thick, butter-smooth impasto technique with a joyful, sun-drenched palette. "When I moved here, the light, energy, and warmth blew me away. I make art babies out of my love affair with Southern California—building layers of raw, heavy paint to capture those everyday moments that feel like a core memory you almost forgot you had." The week-long showcase takes place in the heart of DTLA inside the Eastern Columbia Building. Originally designed by Claud Beelman in 1930 and clad in its signature "melting turquoise" terra cotta and gold leaf, the Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument provides a majestic, high-contrast backdrop for Gaskin’s warm, textured, and color-drenched canvases.
