Jussi Rinta-Hoiska: Lukosta valoon – From Lock to Light

Jussi Rinta-Hoiska’s work has focused on social topics for almost 20 years. This exhibition features a selection of old and new photo and video works. “My first art photograph, Lukosta valoon (‘From Lock to Light’), was completed in 2006. Almost 20 years have passed since then. The works in the exhibition tell the story of a young girl’s journey. At first, the girl doesn’t know which way to go. She lacks information and feels like an outsider. Eventually, the girl finds a key and manages to free herself from the containment. On her journey, the girl explores society and herself. She goes from darkness into light, learns to understand her own life and finds self-confidence through language. In the end, she grows stronger and carries on.” A guided tour of the exhibition will be held in Finnish Sign Language on Saturday 22 August 2026 at 13.00–14.00.
